About Knin
Knin lies in the Knin field, at the foot of a mediaeval fortress, along the railroad Zagreb - Split and the road leading from the Croatian capital to the Adriatic coast. This ancient seat of the throne of Croatian kings is extremely rich in valuable cultural and historical monuments. Especially attractive are the remains of the Knin fortress on the Spas hill above the very centre of the town, mainly because of a monumental aspect of the fortress and a magnificent view on the town and its surroundings. Domestic tourists always take photographs with a huge Croatian national flag on top of the fortress, raised to commemorate the victory of the Croatian army in the Homeland War (1995). In the immediate vicinity of the town is the source of the Krka river and the boundary of the national park bearing the same name. Very interesting are the Krka waterfalls near Topolje. KNIN, a town in the northern part of Dalmatia, on the right bank of the Krka river, 56 km northeast of Sibenik; elevation 220 m. Economy is based on farming, livestock breeding, metal (screws), textile (clothes, underwear) and wood industries and building material production (bricks, gypsum elements). In the immediate vicinity are gypsum and limestone quarries. Knin is an important intersection of Lika, Una and Zadar railroads, as well as the intersection of several main roads.
